How to Avoid Meaningless Spending While Maintaining a Dignified Lifestyle
According to Grady Cash -- Public Speaker and Financial Planner who founded the Center for Financial Wellbeing in Nashville -- there are four types of Purchases:
Possessions Food, clothing, toiletries, etc.
(We all need clothes. We don’t all need to wear designer clothes).
Services Necessary utilities; luxury services: entertainment, cable TV
Experiences Intangibles such as going to the movies; amusement parks
Feelings Trying to buy the feeling of being loved, of being smart, of being special, of belonging, of being respected, of being powerful, or any other positive feeling you need or desire.
In many cases, people are buying possessions, services, or experiences, but what they’re really trying to get is that special FEELING.
Learn to Bypass the Buying and Instead Find the Feeling!
Instead of buying your loved one an expensive present in the hopes of eliciting a warm connection between you, give a poem you wrote from the heart.
Instead of going to a costly amusement park with the kids on a summer day to have some fun times together, go for a picnic at a park or a lake.
Instead of going to dinner and a movie, have a sandwich or barbecue at Home and settle in for a cozy night in front of the tv.
